WACO, Texas — The City of Waco is proud to welcome its new Mayor, Jim Holmes, a seasoned leader with a proven track record to the community.
Holmes's journey in public service began when he was appointed to the Waco City Council in June 2016, representing District V. His commitment to the city was shown by his election to the District V seat in May 2017, a position he was re-elected to in May 2019 and May 2021.
During his journey, Holmes's served as Mayor Pro Tem from 2017 to 2018, demonstrating his ability to navigate the complexities of city governance.
Beyond his duties, Holmes holds significant roles in various regional and statewide organizations, including Chairman of the Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board and President of the Heart of Texas Council of Governments Executive Board. Additionally, he serves as a Director on the State Board of the Texas Association of Regional Councils.
Holmes's dedication to Waco extends beyond his work, as he actively contributes to numerous community initiatives and organizations.
He serves as a Board Director on the Greater Waco Sports Commission, the Cameron Park Zoo Commission, and the Greater Waco Chamber of Commerce. His involvement in the Waco City Council's Budget & Audit Committee and Boards & Commissions Committee further illustrates his comprehensive engagement in city affairs.
Alongside his civic engagements, Holmes and his wife, Cindy, generously support various local non-profits, including the Waco Symphony Orchestra, Lake Air Little League, Leadership Waco, American Cancer Society, and Creative Waco.
