Holmes files candidacy for Waco Mayoral Election

The official filing took place at City Hall.

WACO, Texas — Waco City Councilman Jim Holmes declared his candidacy for the position of mayor in the upcoming May 2024 election on Tuesday Jan. 17.

The official filing took place at City Hall, accompanied by the Oath of eligibility.

Having served as Councilman for the past seven years, Holmes says in a Facebook post, " It has been an honor for me to serve the City as Councilman and as Mayor."

According to his portfolio, Holmes brings 35 years of financial management experience to the Council, serving as COO/EVP of FirstCity Financial Corp & SVP of FNB of Central Texas.

Holmes currently serves as Chairman of Waco Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board, as President of the Heart of Texas Council of Governments Executive Board, and as Director on the State Board of the Texas Association of Regional Councils

"I hope to continue the positive momentum that Waco is currently experiencing. I value your support, and I ask for your continued feedback, guidance, and prayers," Holmes said.

If elected, Holmes will be taking the seat of previous Mayor Dillon Meek. Dillon Meek was elected Mayor of Waco, on November 3, 2020. His term end May 2024.
