$110 million utility district vote in Bell County Precinct 213: No answers or registered voters to weigh in

As residents prepare to vote on propositions aimed at establishing a Municipal Utility District outside of Salado, questions remain unanswered.

SALADO, Texas — As the November election approaches, Bell County Precinct 213 has a series of propositions that would create a Municipal Utility District outside of Salado and issue more than $110 million in bonds.

One proposition would create a Royal Street Municipal Utility District, a board of permanent directors and a total of $110 million in bonds plus an additional property tax.

6 News reached out to county officials for details about the initiative, but a spokesperson stated it was not appropriate for the county to comment further at this time.

Several candidates that are on the ballot as director positions were contacted. Some were even unaware they were on the ballot. One candidate mentioned that the project pertains to water supply for subdivisions but declined to discuss the issue on camera. Another candidate promised to provide more information but has not yet responded.

A spokesperson from Bell County confirmed that the project involves several hundred acres outside of Salado, owned by Height's Evergreen Developers. However, they noted there are currently no registered voters in the only precinct that will determine the fate of this project in the upcoming November election.

Attempts to reach the developers and their legal representatives have so far gone unanswered, leaving many questions unanswered. Key concerns include the nature of the project, who will finance the potentially massive bonds associated with it, and what implications arise if there are no voters to participate in the election.

Stay tuned for updates on this unfolding story.
