WACO, Texas — Gov. Greg Abbott was in Waco on Thursday afternoon visiting the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in support of Pat Curry, who is running for Texas House District 56.
Curry is looking to take over the seat formerly held by Charles "Doc" Anderson after being endorsed by Abbott back in December.
Abbott told the crowd of over 50 people that Curry will be a champion of conservative voices in McLennan County.
During his speech Abbott praised Curry's business world experience and said he would be a key voice in the fight to continue to lower property taxes in the state.
Abbott also said Curry would be a defender of Texans Second Amendment rights and the continued efforts to secure the border and expand school choice.
"We're going into a session where Pat will be a freshman. We're going into a session where we're likely going to have about a 20-billion-dollar budget surplus, again," Abbott said. "We should take that budget surplus and ensure that we cut your property tax rates even more. That's what Pat Curry will do for you."
Abbott said he originally endorsed Curry because the two see "eye-to-eye" on several key issues facing the state.
Curry will be taking on fellow Republican Devvie Duke in the primary election March 4.
Duke has been endorsed by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton.
