TEMPLE, Texas — NASA announced plans to strengthen international relations last week.
Deputy Administrator Pam Melroy and Associate Administrator for Science Mission Directorate Nicola Fox were expected to have arrived in Mexico City on Sunday, Nov. 24, according to a NASA press release published on Friday, Nov. 22.
Melroy and Fox were expected to speak with industrial, scientific and academic leaders. Melroy's schedule includes meetings with top Mexican government officials including the secretariat-designate for science, technology, humanities and innovation.
The trip is intended to open the door to economic, educational and STEM - science, technology, engineering and math - collaborations between Mexico and the United States as Mexico continues to grow its astronomy divisions.
This is NASA's second trip to Mexico since April 2024. Administrator Bill Nelson and Melroy met with Mexican government officials at that time.
NASA describes the visit as a reflection of the administration's "commitment to advancing international cooperation in space and science for the benefit of all."
