TEMPLE, Texas — A national nonprofit organization has named the Temple/Killeen/Fort Cavazos area of Central Texas as one of the best job markets in the country for veterans.
According to Hire Heroes USA, the area is the 8th best job market for veterans in the United States, behind areas such as Washington DC, San Diego, San Antonio and Dallas-Fort Worth.
The organization said the markets reflect a blend of "accessible resources, thriving industries and strong veteran communities", with many being located near major military installations, which Hire Heroes USA says provides veterans with community support, familiar resources and access to veteran services.
Each of the areas, including the Temple/Killeen area, also hosts VA health centers, according to the organization, providing another valuable resource for veterans.
The report also listed the top industries for veteran hires, including government and public administration, defense contracting, information technology and more.
“Veterans and military spouses have tangible skills and leadership abilities that provide tremendous value across a variety of industries,” said Ross Dickman, CEO of Hire Heroes USA. “The breadth of roles is well represented in our 2024 data, and most importantly it signals that veterans are a competitive advantage in the workforce; one that strengthens the nation while making their workplace better.”
