Maj. Gen. (Promotable) Paul E. Funk II signed his III Corps assumption of command orders at Fort Hood on Friday.
On Monday, he will oversee Exercise Courageous Hammer, which will last until April 12 and will test III Corps staff and subordinates in a realistic wartime exercise.
Funk has previously been assigned to posts across the country -- including Fort Bliss, Fort Carson and Fort Riley. Most recently, he worked at the Pentagon.
Once the exercise is completed, he will be promoted to lieutenant general, and outgoing commander Lt. Gen. Sean B. MacFarland will present him with the III Corps colors.
