Fort Hood town hall about on-base housing reveals residents' concerns

One woman at the town hall said she and her children got sick during the first day they moved in, because of black mold in the house.

FORT HOOD, Texas — Families living on Fort Hood called living conditions deplorable, as they took their complaints directly to Commanding Gen. Paul Funk during a town hall meeting about on-base housing Thursday night.

The town hall was the first of a series on Fort Hood mandated by the Secretary of the Army.

On-base housing quickly became a hot topic.

One woman said she and her children got sick during the first day they moved in, because of black mold in the home.

On the Facebook live feed, a number of comments came in supporting the families who spoke out on housing issues.

"This is personal," Funk said. "This is my hometown, so we will make real change. We will be transparent about it. Our policies will adjust."

Fort Hood leadership is not doing any interviews at this time. The next town hall will be held on Monday.

It will be streamed live on the Fort Hood Facebook page.
