Fort Cavazos reports wife of missing soldier has died, say soldier "willingly absented" from Army

A search party is being organized for missing Army Spc. Craig Chamberlain at 10 a.m. on May 26.

FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — Fort Cavazos officials have provided an update on the status of missing soldier Army Spc. Craig Chamberlain. They also announced that Chamberlain's wife Cameron has passed away.

According to a news release given on May 19, Spc. Chamberlain was last seen leaving his Killeen home on Monday, May 15. He was reported missing by his wife Cameron Chamberlain later that day.

On May 25, the Fort Cavazos Media Center shared that Cameron Chamberlain had passed away, and offered their condolences to her friends and family. No information on her death was given at this time.

Fort Cavazos officials also provided an update on the status of Craig Chamberlain. According to officials, based on information they have gathered they have assessed Spc. Chamberlain has "willfully absented himself from the Army".

Officials said that despite their findings, the post will continue to work with law enforcement, the Criminal Investigation Division, Chamberlain's unit and his friends and family to find him and ensure that he returns safely.

A search party is being organized to search for Chamberlain on Friday, May 26 in Killeen. Friends, family and others who wish to attend will meet at Conder Community Park at 10 a.m. Those who attend are encouraged to bring good walking shoes, water and spread the word about the event.
