FORT CAVAZOS, Texas — Soldiers from the U.S. Army 1st Cavalry Division and their Polish allies conducted a stair climb in Powidz, Poland on Sept. 11, 2024 in honor of those who died in the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Division shared a video on social media commemorating the climb and the events of 9/11, with both American soldiers and Polish firefighters speaking on what the day means to them.
"This special moment showcases the unity between U.S. Soldiers and Polish firefighters as we stand together to remember the lives lost and reaffirm our shared commitment to freedom and security," the 1st Cavalry Division stated in the post.
"I don't think most people, when they think about 9/11, actually think about what a physically demanding task that these firefighters willingly did just to save as many people as possible and risk their life," said Sgt. Cody Henrickson, Network Team Chief.
"I am very happy that myself and my colleagues could take part in commemorating this day," Polish firefighter Warrant Officer Krysztof Pelec said in the video. "Because I'm a firefighter and a soldier, I am in solidarity with soldiers, firefighters and all victims that perished on this day."
"I feel really good about the Polish coming out here to support us," Henrickson continued. "Because I believe that the trust within us, that the Polish, no matter what difficulties or problems we'll come to be facing, that they'll be here to support us."
