Women's Veteran Clinic held in Waco

Woman are expected to represent 19% of all veterans by 2040.

WACO, Texas — The VA Waco Regional Office held a clinic on Tuesday, Aug. 27 for women veterans, offering a chance for those who have served to speak one-on-one with staff from the office to answer questions about claims for VA benefits and the veteran readiness and employment program.

Madison Scoot, a retired veteran of the Coast Guard, said she had made it her New Years' Resolution to register, and plans to have her other family who have served register as well.

“I am now going to encourage my Dad to do it," Scoot told 6 News. "He served in Vietnam. So, this is a family leap, yeah."

"You may know that Texas has the highest veteran population in the country, and women are one of the highest growing veteran populations as well," Assistant Veterans Service Center Manager Carmen Massey said. "So, this is perfectly fitting to have something specifically for women."

For women who were not able to attend the clinic, VA offices in Waco, Temple and North Texas are open daily. More information on benefits, facilities and more can be found at VA.gov.
