Woman found guilty of killing Baylor band member in hit-and-run

The deadly hit-and-run occurred back in October 2016.

WACO, Texas — A McLennan County jury has found 56-year-old Tammy Blankenship guilty for killing David Grotberg in a hit-and-run back in October 2016. 

McLennan County District Attorney Josh Tetens confirmed with 6 News that the jury found her guilty of two second-degree felonies: Failure to stop and render aid and Manslaughter. Both of these charges carry a punishment of two to 20 years in prison. 

Sentencing is set to begin Friday, Feb. 9 at 10:30 a.m.

Blankenship was arrested in 2019 and charged with failure to stop and render aid causing death, she was originally booked in the McLennan County Jail. 

The hit-and-run took place in the 3200 block of Franklin Avenue on Oct. 6, 2016. Grotberg, a popular member of the Baylor University Golden Wave Marching Band, was on a bike ride with his girlfriend when he was hit, she was not injured.
