Menorah Lighting Ceremonies in Central Texas

Hanukkah events appear to be scarce in the areas between Austin and Dallas, but there are still places a short drive away if you are looking to celebrate.

TEMPLE, Texas — Members of the Jewish community in Waco, Temple or Killeen may notice that it's difficult to find events in Central Texas to celebrate Hanukkah.

The annual "Festival of Lights" is an eight-day event and in 2023 it begins on Thursday, Dec. 7 and lasts through Friday, Dec. 15.

Traditionally, Jewish families will light one candle on a menorah each night of the holiday. In addition to this, families may read Scripture or recite Psalms and sing special hymns.

If you would like to make the drive about an hour south, cities just north of Austin are kicking off Hanukkah with a Menorah Lighting Ceremony on Monday, Dec. 11.

Pflugerville

Menorah Lighting Ceremony

Come to Downtown Pflugerville as the Chabad of Round Rock/Pflugerville lights the Menorah. On Main Street, the Jewish community will gather and celebrate the holiday by lighting the Menorah, enjoying latkes, donuts and singing songs!

Time: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
