WACO, Texas — Cesar Chavez Day is Sunday, but some people in Waco gathered to celebrate his life and work Saturday.
To honor the labor leader and civil rights, activists held a vendor fair and entertainment show at Mutualista Hall. The event also featured live music and a low-rider car show.
The event organizer said there are Cesar Chavez events in other parts of Texas, so he wanted to bring the celebration to Waco.
"His legend is slowing falling away,” event organizer Jose Raymundo said. “I want to bring that back up and try to help unite our people and just let them know a little more about Cesar Chavez and what he did for all our communities."
Cesar Chavez dedicated his life to improving the treatment, pay and working conditions of farm workers. He founded the United Farm Workers in 1962.
