WACO, Texas — Waco police said a shooting that resulted in a woman getting shot Thursday was actually the result of two men shooting at each other.
Police were called to the 900 block of N. 24th St. around 5 p.m. to find the victim had been shot in the stomach.
Police said it started when a family member of the woman came to the house and found Jeffrey Wayne Flowers was inside the home. He was not supposed to be there due to a protective order.
Police said the two men later got into a fight in the backyard. At some point, Flowers took out a gun and started shooting it at the other man. The man then took out his own gun and started shooting back at Flowers, police said.
The woman was hit by at least one round during the shooting. Police did not say which person shot her.
Flowers and the other man were taken into custody but only Flowers was charged with a crime, police said.
Flowers was booked into the McLennan County Jail on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, violation of a protective order and for violating his parole.
This is an on-going and active investigation.
