WACO, Texas — The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a meeting Tuesday evening to discuss the future of its superintendent, Dr. Marcus Nelson. The special meeting with the district comes after Nelson was arrested on a misdemeanor charge of possession of marijuana under two ounces in early March.

According to the agenda, the special meeting will begin behind closed doors with the Waco ISD Board of Trustees.
Then board members will have an open meeting to discuss possible consequences for Nelson as well as his contract and employment with the district.
The public can attend and people will have an opportunity to address the board.
Many community members have expressed their support for Nelson and an online petition was created, "Support OUR Superintendent," which has nearly 6,000 signatures.
The meeting will be held at the Waco ISD Conference Center at 6:30 p.m. Doors open to the public at 5:30 p.m.
