Waco ISD first day of school headlined by Tennyson Middle School opening

Many school districts in Central Texas have now started the 2024-2025 school year.

WACO, Texas — Waco ISD is officially back in session for the 2024-2025 school year and with that celebrated the opening of Tennyson Middle School, the districts newest campus.

The new campus is over 180,000 square feet, can hold just over 1,000 students and cost $77 million to construct. The school includes a new football field and collaborative learning classroom designs that can allow for the ability to teach multiple classes.

"The new learning spaces that students have available creates an environment where kids can learn best," said Principal Bradford McMillan.

Other Central Texas school districts such as Belton and Killeen ISD also started the 2024-2025 school year on Aug. 14. The full list of back-to-school dates for Central Texas school districts can be found here.

6 News Anchor/Reporter Micah Wilson brought the energy for the school's opening and even learned some dance moves from the Tennyson students.
