Waco ISD board takes no action in superintendent's employment after 4 hours of closed session

The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees decided to take no action in superintendent Marcus Nelson's employment Tuesday night. The special meeting will continue Thursday night.

WACO, Texas — Following a special session Tuesday, the Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees took no action in superintendent Dr. Marcus Nelson's employment.

The board adjourned Tuesday night around 11:50 p.m., after a closed session that lasted longer than four hours. The board will meet again Thursday night to continue the special meeting.

Nelson was arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana charge on March 6, the Robertson County Sheriff's Office said.

On Friday, he made a plea agreement to get his misdemeanor marijuana charge dropped, Robertson County District Attorney Coty Siegert confirmed.

The special meeting began with a public forum, so residents could have their input heard before the board made its decision.

Following the public's comments, the board went into a closed session.

The closed session went on for so long, Waco ISD supplied journalists and others attending the meeting with snacks.
