Waco food pantry extends hours to serve those in need

Caritas of Waco Food Pantry opening earlier to help those in need.

WACO, Texas — Caritas of Waco Food Pantry will distribute food starting Wednesday to those in need from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. instead of their normal serving hours in the afternoon. The change in time allows more time to bag food items and to effectively serve those in need.

Those who need food assistance are asked to line up their vehicles along the Mary St. side of the Caritas building and follow the cones that are set up along the route. You must approach the food pantry between S. 16th and S. 15th Streets.

Guests are asked to stay in their vehicles at all times unless otherwise directed by Caritas. Food will be either placed in the trunk of a car of the bed of a truck. No food will be placed in the cab of the vehicle. All trunks and truck beds must be empty to receive food.

If a homeless person needs food and doesn't have a vehicle, they will be served by Caritas staff adjacent to the drive-through area.

You are asked to only come if you are facing ongoing food insecurity that is only heightened by COVID-19. Caritas said they will not serve food to those seeking alternatives for food temporarily out of stock at the grocery store.

As a reminder, eligible families may receive food assistance once a month. The homeless population can receive it once a week.
