WACO, Texas — As the Waco Fire Department reflects on the month of January, fire officials can confirm there were fewer fires reported than in the month compared to January 2018.
A total of 20 structure fires were reported to the department in January, which is 21 fewer reports than in 2018, according to Lt. Keith Guillory.
Weather may have caused the 50-percent decrease, but a request for smoke alarm installations could have helped as well, he said.
"We're very excited about that number and we're looking forward to being in the public more, and giving more education and prevention tips," he said.
With help from the Waco community, Guillory said fewer fire incidents can be expected in the future.
