Waco church forced to halt feeding program after truck breaks down

The Family of Faith Worship Center is in need of a mechanic to fix its broken-down delivery truck so it can resume its feeding program.

WACO, Texas — A church in Waco is asking for the community's help to continue to serve families in the area.

Family of Faith Worship Center had to suspend its community food distribution, which may cause hundreds of families to go without a meal.

Right after Thanksgiving, Pastor Ruben Andrade found something wrong with their delivery truck.

"Unfortunately, when we went to start our truck we realized it did not want to crank. Long story short, the motor went out on it," Andrade said.

He said every week, Family of Faith Worship Center depends on the truck to pick up between 10,000 and 12,000 pounds of food to feed 700 to 800 families. Andrade said it pains him to think about the effect it will have on some of the regulars.

"She said, 'Pastor, I just want to thank you for what you and your church do,'” Andrade said about a woman who benefits from the food pantry. "She said, 'You don’t understand, if it wasn’t for you and this food pantry, my family probably wouldn’t have eaten for days.'”

Andrade said food had been handed out at his church for 14 years. He is hoping there's someone who can help.

"Anyone who may have contact with other trucking companies, or have a truck they no longer want to use that they can donate to the church, or any mechanic who may be able to get this one up and going again," Andrade said.

He said without the truck, they cannot pick up the food they receive, so they had no choice but to suspend the food distribution.

"It is really difficult for me to even think that because of the holiday season and so many families who depend on this food pantry," Andrade said.

About 25 to 30 volunteers from the community come to the Family of Faith Worship Center every week to hand out food.
