Waco animal shelter sponsoring free adoptions

The Humane Society of Central Texas and the City of Waco announced beginning Thursday they are sponsoring free adoptions up to 44 animals.

The Humane Society of Central Texas and the City of Waco announced beginning Thursday they are sponsoring free adoptions up to 44 animals.

Waco city officials said the animal shelter at 2032 Circle Road recently reached “no-kill” status. However, it does not mean it is a no-kill shelter.

The regional shelter is an open admission shelter and is full. More than 80 dogs have been received in the past two days and are continuing to come in, officials said.

The Humane Society of Central Texas and the Animal Shelter urge pet lovers to consider adoption and/or fostering a pet. The city said to maintain a no-kill status takes a community-wide effort.

The City of Waco offers free options for spay/neuter and microchipping their pets with information available at spaystreetwaco.com or by calling 254-752-7729.
