WACO, Texas — The NAACP's annual "Souls to the Polls" event was held at the Waco Multi-Purpose Building on Sunday, Oct. 27. This tradition encourages all types of voters to exercise their rights, promotes voting as a civic duty and fosters community through music, food and fellowship.

For decades, "Souls to the Polls" has provided a platform for first-time and seasoned voters to cast their ballots. Dr. Peaches Henry, president of the Waco NAACP, expressed her delight at seeing diverse groups come together to make their voices heard.

"We speak in our country with our vote," Henry continued. "We tell people representing us how we want them to vote on our behalf, what kinds of policies we want them to enact. This is our voice. I encourage people to exercise their voice because their vote is their power."

Henry also said that this year, a record number of early voters were seen, showing a commitment to civic engagement in the community. She aims to continue motivating residents to head to the polls and support their fellow citizens in voting.

As the countdown to Election Day continues, local organizations like the NAACP are crucial in mobilizing voters and ensuring that every voice is heard.

Early voting will remain open until next Friday, Nov. 1, with Election Day set for Tuesday, Nov. 5. For those who need to check their registration status, the public can visit this link for more resources.
