Volunteers clean up historic Falls County church after fire

More than 40 volunteers helped clean up debris where the 151-year-old church once stood.

MOOREVILLE, Texas — After a tragic fire burned down a Falls County church on Feb. 8, more than 40 volunteers gathered to help clean up debris Monday.

The Central Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church Disaster Relief Team traveled to the Mooreville United Methodist Church, which is about 16 miles from Marlin.

Once there, helpers removed a badly damaged portable building and cleared out debris like burned wood, broken glass and dispersed nails at the site where the 151-year-old building once stood.

Reverend of the historic church, Dennis Rejcek, said the outpouring of support from the people is much appreciated. He said the unity of the community is a blessing.

“We’re all God’s people and we take care of each other,” Rejcek said.

Rev. Rejcek also said that the church held a memorial service and rededicated their fellowship hall as their main place of worship for the present time.

Donations can be made at any Bancorp South location or mailed to the Mooreville United Methodist Church Fire Relief Fund at P.O. box 808 in Marlin, 76661.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
