Viewer's lens: Storm damage in Central Texas

Residents in Central Texas cities are seeing extensive damage due to storms and a possible tornado.

TEMPLE, Texas — As high winds, rain and hail ripped through several Central Texas cities, viewers provided a look at damage and impacts across the area.

Severe storms rapidly moved in on Wednesday, May 22, bringing along damage and roadway flooding across parts of Central Texas.

Homes, businesses and vehicles were damaged in Temple by wind, hail and a possible tornado on May 22.

Downed power lines and extensive damage to buildings can be seen in a video posted to social media by X user JagsJackett. In the X post, the person mentions a tornado. The National Weather Service will survey the area to confirm if that's what the damage was from.

Belton officials say several roads are blocked by downed trees and flooding.

Below is a video from Nathan Cross that was shared with WFAA reporter Matt Howerton, who went to Waco to help cover the storm.

Safety reminders

In the event of a tornado, the safest places to go in your home are in the interior hallways, closets, bathrooms, under staircases, or a basement if you have one.

Remember to NEVER drive through flooded roads and limit travel as much as possible as storms slide across our area.

This is a developing story, check back for updates.
