HAYS COUNTY, Texas - A Bryan man and his unborn child died following a head-on crash with an alleged drunk driver.
San Marcos Police said 23-year-old Fabian Guerrero and his wife, 24-year-old Kristian Guerrero, were driving along Highway 21 Tuesday night when another driver crossed the median and crashed into them.
"It was devastating, man," said Aaron Falcon, Fabian Guerrero's best friend. "I came outside running, man. I was just knocking everything down."
According to the affidavit, the driver who hit them, 21-year-old Shana Elliott, told police she had been drinking while floating the river before getting behind the wheel.
Police also said Elliot failed a field sobriety test.
Fabian died shortly after the crash and Kristian is being treated at a hospital in Austin.
A family member said the unborn child didn't survive due to injuries from the crash and Kristian suffered several injuries, including minor bleeding of the brain, but is recovering.
Falcon says Fabian was excited about being a father.
"He was like super excited," said Falcon. "I've never seen him more excited before. He had tears in his eyes when he told me and I remember telling him, 'you're so lucky man.'"
Kristian is a student at Manuel and Theresa's School of Hair Design in Bryan. According to the school, a moment of silence was held for her family Wednesday Morning.
"Everybody, everybody is so affected because, she was just that special of a person and it's horrible," said Crystal Rodriguez with the school.
Fabian was employed at UniFirst in College Station.
Meanwhile, Elliott is charged with one count of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault.
