TxDOT to begin prepping roads in Central Texas ahead of wintry weather

Crews will focus on major roadways during this prep.

CENTRAL, Texas — Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Waco District says it will begin treating roadways on Friday, Jan. 12 in anticipation of the wintry conditions forecasted.

According to TxDOT, crews will focus on applying a brine solution to major roadways including I-35, I-14 and additional state and US highways.

Bridges and overpasses will get treated first as these structures are typically the ones that experience freezing temperatures first.

This brine application will help prevent snow and ice from sticking to pavement, so cars driving on it can "slush it up," according to TxDOT.

TxDOT reminds everyone to be alert and drive with extreme caution during these conditions. Drivers should be prepared to delay travel plans or even cancel them if conditions warrant it.
