Two dead after Waco apartment complex fire

Two people were reportedly killed in the two-alarm fire, the cause of which is still under investigation.

WACO, Texas — Two people are dead after a fire at a Waco apartment complex, reported the Waco Fire Department.

Firefighters said they received a call at 7:04 a.m. on Feb. 18, and arrived on scene in the 300 block of Richland Dr. minutes later at 7:08 a.m.

The fire was already allegedly a 2nd alarm fire when firefighters arrived, with "heavy fire conditions" present. Twelve units and 37 firefighters reportedly responded the fire in total.

Waco Fire reported soon after that the blaze was under control, but that two people were sadly killed in the fire.

According to a Deputy Chief with the Waco Fire Department, 24 other people have also been forced from their homes due to smoke and water damage. The Red Cross is currently on scene assisting.

According to the Deputy Fire Chief, the fire occurred primarily in one unit, but smoke and water damage spread to nearby units.

No cause of the fire has been reported as of yet. The Fire Marshal's Office is reportedly investigating the cause of the blaze.
