CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — An infant boy who died on Friday, July 10, tested positive for SARS-Cov2, the virus that causes COVID-19, according to the Nueces County Public Health District.
Health Director, Annette Rodriguez, said the child was hospitalized, but not admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
He began responding to doctor's care after being admitted to the hospital and was discharged two days later.
The infant died from Sudden Infant Death Syndrome more than one week after returning home from the hospital. Since the six-week-old infant was diagnosed with COVID-19, his death will count as a coronavirus-related death in Nueces County.
According to city officials, an autopsy will be performed on the infant boy to determine the exact cause of death.
"My deepest condolences go out to the family," City Councilman, Ben Molina stated in the Facebook post on Friday, July 10.
According to city health officials, the infant boy is the first child to die with the coronavirus in Nueces County.
