MARLIN, Texas — The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has started to transition governance of Marlin ISD from the state-appointed Board of Managers back to some of its locally-elected Board of Trustees.
This transition marks the return of local control and the integration of two elected trustees, Billy Johnson and Rosalyn Dimerson, who will serve on a five-member governing board that also includes members of the TEA's Board of Managers.
TEA Commissioner Mike Morath stated, "This transition signifies an important milestone for Marlin ISD. Through diligent oversight and the collaboration between the Board of Managers and Superintendent Henson, MISD has made substantial improvements in both academics and governance. I am confident the governing body of Marlin ISD will continue to propel the district forward and allow for a successful resumption of duties for the elected trustees."
The state intervened in January 2017 to help the district overcome its history of academic underperformance.
Marlin ISD Superintendent Dr. Daryll Henson stated, "The integration of our elected trustees with the Board of Managers symbolizes not only a return to local governance, but also the unity and collaborative spirit that propels us forward. We are grateful for the guidance of the Texas Education Agency and remain committed to building on our successes for the benefit of every student in our district."
This process is said to last until the Board of Managers' term expires on Jan. 31, 2026. Following this expiration, Marlin ISD will return governance fully to its elected Board of Trustees.
