TEMPLE, Texas — One of the buildings at the Temple Veterans Affairs hospital was closed after testing done in December came back positive for mold, Director for the Central Texas Health Care System Christopher Sandles told Channel 6 Friday.
Sandles said the tests were done inside building 146 where patients needing mental health, behavioral and recreational therapy services are treated.
The results came back Jan. 18. Sandles said the 26 member staff was evacuated and dozens of patient appointments were rescheduled. He said they notified the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
Sandles said they were working with a company to fix the problem and ensure the mold will not return. He said the VA buildings are tested on a regular basis
Signs were placed on the building to notify patients and Sandles said letters were sent to patients telling them where to get treatment.
