Temple PD offering free steering wheel locks to Kia and Hyundai owners

This is an effort to combat the rise in car thefts related to these two car manufacturers.

TEMPLE, Texas — The Temple Police Department is giving away 196 free steering wheel locks to residents who own KIA and Hyundai cars on Wednesday, Nov. 29.

Anyone who is interested in taking advantage of these free locks can come to the police department located at 209 E Avenue A in Temple. All you have to do is bring your car and proof of Temple residency.

Following the event, you can visit Temple PD Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to pick up a lock if there are any available.

According to Temple PD, an increase in car thefts involving KIA and Hyundai cars have been reported and they are hoping this event will help combat those thefts.

The steering wheel lock is a metal rod that connects to the steering wheel to prevent it from turning and will only unlock with a designated key.
