Temple father reaches fundraising goal for statue honoring his son's life

The statue will be at Pepper Creek Trail, one of Chris Johnson's favorite spots to fish.

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple father Gary Johnson has reached the $6000 fundraising goal to build a statue honoring his son, Chris Johnson, at Pepper Creek Trail.

At just 19, Chris Johnson was killed in a motorcycle accident on Thanksgiving night in 2022. One of his favorite spots to fish was on Pepper Creek Trail.

The City of Temple is declaring Aug. 23 as "Chris Johnson Day" and will reveal the statue dedicated to him.

Johnson says the statue will be shipped from a sculptor in California this week and be ready and in place for "Chris Johnson Day."

The Christopher Johnson Foundation still needs funding for other projects in the works, according to his Facebook post. More information is on the foundation website or in Johnson's post.

HUGE announcement: We had another fundraising event last evening, this time at Bold Republic Brewing Company of Temple. ...
