UIL Realignment | Key takeaways for Central Texas teams

Check out some of the major changes around Central Texas.

TEMPLE, Texas — University Interscholastic League (UIL) realignment made some notable changes for some of our Central Texas-area teams on Thursday, Feb. 1.

One of these changes includes Lorena moving from 3A Division 1 to 4A Division 2, which is the same place that China Spring and La Vega moved down to from 4A Division 1.

China Spring, La Vega and Lorena will all compete against each other in District 11, alongside Gatesville, Robinson and Connally.

Additionally, Waco High and University are now in the same District 10 of 5A Division 2. These two teams will get to take on competition stretching to the Brazos Valley including Bryan Rudder and Brenham. Other teams in District 10 include Belton and Killeen Ellison.

Shoemaker has also made a notable jump to 6A District 12, they will face Bryan, Copperas Cove, Killeen, Harker Heights, Temple and Waco Midway.

Down to the smaller schools, we have Mart and Chilton joining the same District 10 of 2A Division 2, setting up a rematch of the 2023 State Semi-final game.

Lastly, Whitney has now joined up with Mexia and Groesbeck in 3A Division 1 District 5, which also features West, Grandview and Maypearl.
