Stillhouse Hollow Marina to be removed following announced closure

Damage that the marina sustained after winds from the summer Tornado in Temple and a fire that broke out on a boat have resulted in irreparable damages.

BELTON, Texas — The Stillhouse Hollow Marina in Belton, which has been in operation for decades, will be officially closing its doors and removed after the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has determined the facility to have been "damaged beyond repair."

According to officials with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Fort Worth District, two major events over the summer were a primary factor in the corps' decision to close and remove the marina: the first event was winds from the Temple tornado, and the other was a fire that broke out on a boat at the facility in early August.

In the case of the latter incident, a man aboard the boat that caught fire suffered serious burns to his body and had to jump off before swimming to the dock for help. While no other injuries were reported, the boat did make contact with the marina's building, causing it to catch fire.

The Army Corps of Engineers says they have "full intentions" of re-leasing the marina once the damaged parts of the facility have been removed. A timeline of when the removal of the marina was not given.
