22-year-old man killed in crash involving 18-wheeler identified

A 22-year-old man was killed in a crash between an 18-wheeler and a pickup truck, the Waco Fire Department said.

WACO, Texas — One man was killed and four others were injured Monday in a crash involving a pickup and a gravel truck, Waco police said.

The wreck was reported just before 1:45 pm. in the intersection of South 3rd Street and University Parks Drive.

Investigators said the 18-wheeler hit the silver F-150 on the passenger side. One person, Harley McKinney, 22, who was a front-seat passenger in the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people in the pickup were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Hillcrest with serious, but non life-threatening injuries, a fire official said.

The Waco Police Department said initially it was believed that the pickup truck driver failed to yield to the 18-wheeler while trying to cross University, but later found that the pickup driver was traveling north on University Parks Dr. and tried to turn on South 3rd Street when the pickup was hit.
