Scam Alert | Caller claims to be Bell County Sheriff, asks victim to purchase money vouchers

An unknown man has called multiple potential victims and identified himself as Major TJ Cruz with the Bell County Sheriff's Office

BELL COUNTY, Texas — An unknown man has called multiple potential victims and identified himself as Major TJ Cruz with the Bell County Sheriff's Office.

During these phone calls, the man asks the victim to go to Dollar General to purchase, "Three money pack vouchers," for various dollar amounts. He tells the victim that there is a warrant for their arrest, usually for, "Missing jury duty," according to the Bell County Sheriff's Office.

The last known number that the scammer is calling from is 254-613-7493, extension 112 if prompted.

If the number is called, a message recording states the caller has reached the Bell County Sheriff’s Department, and if this is an emergency, hang up and call 911. The message mentions an Anonymous “Gun Drive” and to leave a message.

The Bell County Sheriff's Office wants the Bell County Citizens to know that they will never be contacted by phone, to inform you of a Warrant. If you believe you may have an active Warrant, please contact Bell County Sheriff’s Department. Non-emergency, during normal business hours, Monday thru Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
