RIESEL, Texas —
Oct. 24 Update: Chief Krumnow has continued to make improvements and has been moved out of the ICU and into a regular recovery room, according to the Riesel Police Department Facebook Page. As of Saturday, RPD said the chief was still making progress in the hospital but "still not out of the woods." Police said he was facing adverse side effects from the medication he had while he was under sedation.
The Riesel Police Department updated the public on Chief Krumnow’s condition on Facebook Monday. The post started by saying “Great news, today he is trying to walk out of here.”
More than a week after Riesel Police Chief Danny Krumnow was seriously injured when a vehicle hit him on Hwy. 6, Krumnow's condition is improving even more.
Krumnow and Falls County K-9 Deputy Matt Jones were hit while helping a driver near County Road 190 on Oct. 11. Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.
Krumnow has made great progress in the last 12 hours, with no surgeries scheduled. He has been taken off the breathing machine and breathing with an oxygen mask, but will need medical attention for his knee in the near future.
He has also been able to say a few words and recognize close family and friends.
“He wants soda. We are on the right path to recovery, it will just be a lengthy one.”
