Remains of man reported missing in 2022 discovered in Bosque County

The discovery of a human bone by later led to clothing items and an ID of William C. Stramp, who was reported missing on July 9, 2022.

BOSQUE COUNTY, Texas — The remains and other identifying information of a man that has been missing for over two years have been found.

According to the Bosque County Sheriff's Office, William C. Stramp was reported missing on July 9, 2022. When he was reported missing, his car was found abandoned at a convenience store in Laguna Park, but Stramp himself was nowhere to be found. Officials continued to search for Stramp while the investigation remained open, but until a discovery on Monday, Sept. 16, the case remained unsolved.

The sheriff's office says that on Monday, employees with the Corps of Engineers spotted a human bone near the base of a cliff where the Whitney Dam meets the ground. A closer search of the area by Corp staff members revealed that there were other human bones in the vicinity.

Bosque County Sheriff's Office investigators, alongside the Texas Rangers and the Waco Police Department Crime Scene unit were dispatched to where the bones were reported to conduct a further search.

The area that the bones were spotted in was described as "very obscure and difficult to get to." Heavy brush and timber growth blocked visibility to the area and was on the edge of a rock wall.

Among the items found were various pieces of clothing and a wallet with Stramp's ID. While the sheriff's office says that no foul play is suspected, and evidence and statements from family members point towards Stramp intending to take his own life, the investigation remains open.
