Police chase ends in deadly crash near Heidenheimer

According to DPS, the driver was under suspicion of driving while impaired.

BELL COUNTY, Texas — Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that 33-year-old Clayton Tyler Henning died after crashing his car into a concrete wall on Thursday, Jan. 18. 

According to DPS, Henning was pulled over in his 2015 GMC Sierra at about 10 p.m. near Rogers. 

DPS says deputies observed signs of impairment while conducting the stop and attempted to check Henning's sobriety. It was at this point when Henning put his truck in drive and took off, fleeing from DPS. 

According to DPS, deputies chased Henning with lights and sirens on and he refused to stop. Henning approached a curve in the roadway at an unsafe speed causing him to veer off the road and crash into a concrete barrier around Business 190 and US 190 near Heidenheimer, DPS says. 

DPS says Henning was pronounced dead at the scene. 

The chase lasted 10 minutes, Henning was said to have reached speeds over 100 miles per hour. 

Texas DPS says this crash is still under investigation.
