CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — Corpus Christi police announced the arrest of a 26-year-old woman they say left her child locked in a car Wednesday morning in the 1200 block of Airline Road.
Authorities said they arrested the woman because she intentionally left her toddler inside of the vehicle, alone, putting the child in a situation where they could have been in imminent danger.
The news comes one month after two separate hot-car death tragedies struck different families within a matter of days in the Coastal Bend.
The 26-year-old mother admitted to police that she left the toddler in her black SUV with the engine running before going into a store in the area, per the Corpus Christi Police Department.
A witness told officers they looked inside the vehicle and observed the child alone in the back seat before someone else involved in the situation was able to locate the mother inside of a nearby store.
The woman was arrested for Abandonment with Intent to Return. She was transported to the city's detention center for booking.
