Congressman Pete Sessions announces run for Speaker of the United States House of Representatives

Sessions represents Texas 17th Congressional District which includes Waco and Huntsville.

WACO, Texas — Congressman Pete Sessions announced his candidacy to be the next Speaker of the United States House of Representatives on Friday, Oct. 20. 

Sessions, who has been a member of Congress for 24 years, is currently the representative of Texas 17th Congressional District which includes parts of Central and East Texas. 

A news release cited Sessions congressional career as the main selling point for his candidacy. 

Sessions served as the Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee from 2009 to 2012. During this time he helped lead the party to get back House majority in 2010. 

Following this role, Sessions chaired the House Committee on Rules and revitalized, advanced the Republican agenda in the House, according to the news release. 

The release ended with the following statement:

"He and his wife Karen are proud to announce his candidacy and share their work and winning vision for the House Republican Conference and the country."
