Operation Stand Down Central Texas will provide services for homeless this weekend

The fight against veteran homelessness is constant. Help the cause with Operation Stand Down Central Texas on Saturday as they provide a hot meal, haircut, medical and dental screenings and new clothing for the homeless in Bell County.

KILLEEN, Texas — KCEN Channel 6 has partnered with Operation Stand Down Central Texas for its 5th annual Fall Stand Down & Community Triage to help the homeless. The event will be held Saturday at the Killeen Community Center, at 2201 East Veterans Memorial Blvd.

Operation Stand Down's mission focuses on combating veteran homelessness; however, this weekend the organization will lend a helping hand to all homeless people of Bell County.

There were 40,056 homeless veterans in 2017, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

The group will provide a hot meal, haircut, medical and dental screenings and new clothing. Veterans Affairs and Texas Veterans Commission will be there to provide information and services

The group still needs volunteers to set up, work and tear down the event. Bell County, the City of Killeen and Central Texas Homeless Coalition are all sponsoring the event.

If you're interested in donating to the cause or volunteering, contact volunteer coordinator Kiki Greenwood at (706)-881-1013 or email operationstanddowncentraltexas@gmail.com.
