SALADO, Texas — One person is dead and another is in critical condition after a deadly crash near Salado on May 24, said the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
According to DPS, A Ford F-250 pickup truck was traveling south on Interstate 35 near the 284-mile marker around 7:19 p.m.
The lead DPS Trooper investigating the crash stated that an unoccupied Kenworth truck tractor semi-trailer was legally parked on the improved shoulder due to mechanical failure.
DPS said the F-250 "failed to drive in a single lane" and hit the parked semi.
A rear passenger, identified by DPS as 24-year-old Byron Lopez Lima of Austin, died on the scene, said DPS. A 20-year-old front-seat passenger was reportedly taken to Baylor Scott & White in critical condition.
DPS says the crash report is "active and open". No further information has been given at this time.
