Wrong twin arrested for shooting of man and woman in Temple

A victim identified Frederick Banks as the suspect in the case but after further investigation, officers found that his twin brother Dederick Banks was the shooter

TEMPLE, Texas — Temple police arrested Frederick Banks, 38, on June 10 in connection to a shooting on June 9. He was charged with a third-degree felony and booked into the Bell County jail.

It was later discovered that Dederick Banks, 38, was actually the suspect in the case. He was arrested in connection to the shooting.

During the investigation, a victim identified Frederick Banks as the prime aggressor in this case but after further investigation, officers found that his twin brother, Dederick Banks, was actually the primary aggressor. 

Frederick Banks was then released from Bell County Jail.

Dederick Banks was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault. He is also a suspect in the June 7 shooting at Club Heavy. That incident is still under investigation.

The Temple Police Department responded to a shooting Tuesday evening at a home located in the 500 block of South 16th Street.

Officers were dispatched at 7:34 p.m. and were told that one man and one woman had been shot. Both were taken to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center and are in stable condition.

The Temple Police Department has taken a male suspect into custody in connection with the shooting.

The investigation is still ongoing and potential charges are pending.
