LOTT, Texas — On Wednesday, Oct. 2, Rosebud-Lott ISD Superintendent Dr. Jim Rosebrock sent an email to parents stating that backpacks would temporarily not be allowed at the district's middle and high school campuses on Thursday and Friday.
"Rosebud-Lott ISD is not immune to threats that other school districts have been receiving," the letter reads. "Out of precaution, backpacks will not be allowed at the RL Middle School/High School tomorrow, Thursday, Oct. 3 and Friday, Oct. 4."
Students could be searched if the administration believes it's necessary, the letter read. Additionally, cell phones and other electronics are still required to be in the students' respective Yondr pouches throughout the day.
The school district says that backpacks will be allowed again on Monday Oct. 7.
6 News reached out to the school district and spoke to Dr. Rosebrock, who said there is "no viable threat" but wanted to "air on the side of caution." The superintendent also noted that "consequences will be coming down soon" as a result of the no backpacks rule that was temporarily instated.
