NAVASOTA, Texas — Two water wells that are connected to the City of Navasota's Public Water System had positive tests for E. coli bacteria return on Friday.
According to a spokesperson for the city, both wells were removed from use and immediately shut down once the bacteria test came back positive.
Despite the positive test for the bacteria, the city says there isn't a need to boil water prior to being consumed due to all distribution samples being in compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's standards.
Here are some things to know about E. coli from the city:
- E. coli bacteria can make you sick, and is a particular concern for infants, young children, and those with weakened immune systems
- Water from the wells that the city's public water system uses is disinfected with chlorine at a water plant before going out to the public for consumption
- The city anticipates the issue being solved within 10 days, and the water wells that tested positive for E. coli bacteria will continue to be isolated from the water system until a negative test result for the bacteria is returned
