Waco Fire Department rescues worker from underground during 'confined space rescue'

The City of Waco said an employee fell while working underground at a water treatment plant.

WACO, Texas — Firefighters with the Waco Fire Department rescued a city employee from underground during a "confined space rescue" on Tuesday, Oct. 22, according to the City of Waco.

The City shared a post on social media detailing the rescue, stating that an employee with the Water Utilities Department was working 30 feet underground when he slipped and fell while doing maintenance at the Riverside Water Treatment Plant.

Firefighters with Waco FD's Technical Rescue Team performed a "confined space rescue", according to the City, using specialized equipment including atmospheric monitoring to help the employee.

The firefighters safely got the man out, said the City, and he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

"We are so thankful for the safety of our employee who knew how to handle the situation and the patience it takes to remain calm and wait for a safe extraction," the City of Waco said in the post, thanking the firefighters for conducting the rescue.

FIRE RESCUE — This morning, an employee at the Water Utilities Department was working about 30 feet underground when he slipped and fell while doing maintenance at the Riverside Water Treatment Plant. Firefighters with the Technical Rescue Team performed a “confined space rescue” involving specialized equipment, including atmospheric monitoring for safety. He was safely removed and transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
