ELM MOTT, Texas — A fire completely tore through a McLennan County home's roof Tuesday night, destroying the home.
The four occupants were alerted to the fire after 11 p.m. by smoke detectors, and were able to escape safely with their nine dogs.
Two dozen firefighters from numerous agencies battled the fire and damage until around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. One firefighter was hospitalized and released hours later and is expected to be okay.
The family will be staying with relatives in the neighborhood for now. The Red Cross was also on scene providing assistance to the family.
