Lacy Lakeview Police investigating possible animal cruelty after blow dart found lodged in dog's stomach

Police are asking anyone who may recognize the dog or know how it got injured to contact the department and reference Case #24-0774.

LACY LAKEVIEW, Texas — The Lacy Lakeview Police Department needs the public's help in finding out who is responsible for an injured dog.

Lacy Lakeview Police Chief Tom Whitten told 6 News one of their officers was dispatched to the 400 block of Pleasantview Drive on Sunday, Nov. 3. They received a call that there was a metal object lodged into a dog near their home.

"One of the members of the home actually removed the metal object and it turned out to be a blow dart," Whitten explained.

The homeowner who called police ended up removing the blow dart from the dog's abdomen. The dog was then taken to the Waco Animal Shelter to be treated.

Whitten believes the dog is a pit bull mix and is a female dog.

Lacy Lakeview Police are asking for the community's help in finding out who injured the dog.

"[We're] trying to figure it out and they're working the case [to] see if there's any other incidents that involve a blow dart, for example, or if any of the neighbors might have seen somebody shooting a blow dart," Whitten added.

The dog is expected to be ok. She was also chipped so police are now looking for her owner.

They urge people to be kind to stray animals, especially when they're not bothering you.

"Fortunately, this one looks like it was someone's pet," Whitten said. "Hopefully we get to the bottom of it and find out what happened."
